Austin FC joined Major League Soccer (MLS) as the 27th club in January 2019. Austin FC officially began competing in MLS in April 2021 and played its first match at home on June 19, 2021, in the new, 100% privately financed, state-of-the-art Q2 Stadium in Austin. Austin FC finished the regular season 2nd in the Western Conference, while also making a run to the Western Conference Finals during the 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Austin FC also operates Austin FC II, a professional-level development team competing as one of 27 clubs in MLS NEXT Pro. In addition, Austin FC operates Austin FC Academy which is the fully funded developmental academy representing the highest level of competition for elite youth soccer players in Central Texas, while serving as the exclusive developmental pathway to MLS for the region’s most talented young players. Combined, Austin FC II and Austin FC Academy teams complete the pro player pathway between elite youth soccer (MLS NEXT) all the way to MLS, and allow for players to develop, improve, and move up to Austin FC or Austin FC II.

Austin FC is actively seeking a Director of Academy Goalkeeping who will help build Austin FC’s goalkeeping development model, train goalkeepers, and identify top goalkeepers for the Academy. This position will be tasked with creating an optimal environment for player development for elite level talents and aspiring professional soccer players. This role will lead the creation of a long-term development plan for elite level goalkeepers in collaboration with the Academy Technical Director and Sporting Director.

The position is based in Austin, TX and the role will work in-person at St. David’s Performance Center.

You Will:
Train all Academy goalkeepers; and
Attend all sessions training sessions, tournaments, competitions, and games (weekend MLS NEXT matches); and
Scout and identify top goalkeepers for our program; and
Develop a long-term training and development plan for our Academy goalkeepers; and
Extensively review and reflect on training sessions and games (player and coach); and
Support other Academy coaches with the execution of their sessions and gamedays; and
Facilitate and support individual development plans for Academy players; and
Mentor other goalkeeper coaches according to the goalkeeping philosophy of Austin FC; and
Submit daily and weekly training logs according to session builder plan; and
Report and discuss talent in the age category with Austin FC Scouting Department.

You Have:
Goalkeeping License preferred
USSF B or UEFA B Coaching License (USSF A or UEFA A preferred)
Bachelor’s degree required
3-5 years’ experience in youth coaching at academy level, age specific 12 through 17-year-olds
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of soccer
Ability to read, understand, and interpret soccer games
Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion
Strong communication skills and the ability to work with others
Knowledge of Microsoft Office; PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
Experience using game analysis software (Sportscode, Nacsport, Wyscout, Hudl, Coachpaint, Tactical Board)
MLS or professional Academy coaching experience is preferred
Experience playing soccer at the collegiate level or higher is preferred
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Commitment to diversity and inclusion both internally and externally
English and/or Spanish language proficiency is essential and Spanish/English bilingual skills are a plus. Additional languages – even better
