ROLE DESCRIPTION

About The Role
Sunderland AFC are looking to recruit a Head of Performance Psychology and Personal Development to lead and manage the Performance Psychology & Personal Development provision, delivering a comprehensive and ambitious service provision across Sunderland AFC’s First Team, Women’s Team and Academy.

Club Responsibilities:

Continually work towards the Club’s corporate strategic goals.
Communicate, promote and protect the Club values to enhance an elite high-performance environment.
Attend all professional development events and actively engage in a personal development plan and integrated appraisal process.
Ensure compliance with all the policies and procedures contained within the Staff Handbook, paying regard to the Equal Opportunity, Dignity at Work and Health & Safety and security policies.
Core Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Oversee the provision of psychology on both a performance and clinical level, providing appropriate interventions and managing referrals to external partners when required.
Regularly review the department’s overall strategic progress and implement appropriate actions as they emerge.
Co-ordinate an ambitious programme of Psychology and Personal Development support for all player and staff members across the Men’s 1st Team, Women’s Team and Academy.
Hold monthly review and planning meetings with individual practitioners in this space.
Hold formal performance reviews with all practitioners, aligned with the wider values of the Club.
Identify and invite selected external providers to stimulate learning and development.
Co-ordinate the department research programme in collaboration with new and existing partners.
Ensure the delivery of timely psychological support to meet the needs of players and staff.
Lead the provision of individual and group-based performance psychology interventions with Men’s 1st team and Professional Development Phase players and staff.
Be a champion of the Club’s values.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of professional interactions.
Leadership Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Responsible for the overall psychological provision at Sunderland AFC.
Line-management responsibility for all additional full and part-time staff within the psychology domain.
Setting the vision and strategic direction of the Psychology and Personal Development programme.
Responsible for the budget within Psychology and Personal Development, in agreement with the Head of Performance and Medicine.
Effectively communicating to all relevant stakeholders internally and externally
Responsible for individual Psychology and Personal Development staff members’ performance and development (role clarity, accountability, personal development, monthly and annual reviews).
